Program Overview:
Our adventure-based Wilderness First Aid (WFA) courses are for outdoor professionals and enthusiasts ages 14+. Each class is provides an active and practical environment that is designed for maximum experiential learning. Participants learn fundamental wilderness medicine and preventative techniques while developing important judgment skills for outdoor emergencies.
CURRICULUM AND OBJECTIVES:
Manage risk through pre trip planning and preventative techniques: communications, 1st Aid Kits, sports nutrition and hydration, rider and equipment checklists, trip itineraries.
Assess and treat life threatening emergencies: CPR, Patient Assessment, Airway management, hemorrhage control, shock, and stabilization.
Practice common trauma management techniques: Wounds and fractures, head injuries, neck and spine injuries, blunt trauma, burns, dental and eye traumas.
Develop important judgment skills for the assessment and evacuation of medical and environmental emergencies at sea: Hypothermia, Heat illness, marine animal bites and stings, cardiac and respiratory emergencies, diabetes, seizures, anaphylaxis.
CERTIFICATIONS:
Wilderness First Aid, valid for 2 years
CPR: AED Adult/ Child/ Infant, valid for 2 years
Round out your mountain biking knowledge and skillset with wilderness medicine for when a ride doesn’t go as smooth as you’d hoped. Learn preventative and emergency first aid management skills adapted specifically for mountain bikers while enjoying the coastal and forested trails of Wilder Ranch State Park in this two-day program.
